TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina Hulu Energi's (PHE) subsidiary, PHE Offshore North West Java (ONWJ), has paid the initial compensation to 10,271 residents affected by the YYA-1 well oil spill. The initial compensation was agreed at Rp900,000 per household per month, for the months of July and August 2019.
The compensation disbursement started in Karawang Regency, West Java. PHE development director Afif Saifudin said the total of the initial compensation payments amounted to Rp18.54 billion.
PHE ONWJ's initial compensation payment is intended to provide direct buffer funds for residents affected, considering the oil spill has been going on for two months.
The compensation payment mechanism involves a number of state banks (Himbara), namely Bank Mandiri, BNI, and BRI.
Karawang Regent Cellica Nurrachadiana appreciated the state firm's quick payment. She said that residents have continued to support and assist PHE ONWJ in handling this incident, especially for cleaning up oil spills.
